LOS ANGELES, CA - (Dec. 4, 2019) On Tuesday, the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to elect Councilwoman Nury Martinez as Council President. In response to the announcement, Maria S. Salinas, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, issued this statement:
“On behalf of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, I extend our congratulations to Councilwoman Nury Martinez on her election to Council President of the City Council of Los Angeles. She has been a friend and collaborator, a champion for a better Los Angeles. We are excited about her bold leadership in this next chapter at City Hall. We look forward to continuing to work with her for the benefit of a thriving Los Angeles," said Salinas.
Martinez is the first Latina to lead the City Council. She succeeds outgoing Council President Herb Wesson.
