L.A. Area Chamber Announces Leaders From FedEx And Ontario International Airport Will Steer 94th Annual World Trade Week

World Trade Week, The Most Extensive Program Of Its Kind, Actively Promotes The Benefits Of International Trade In Growing The Economy


Los Angeles (FEB. 25, 2020) – Today, the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce announced that Cindy Allen, Vice President, Regulatory Affairs and Compliance, FedEx Logistics, and Mark Thorpe, CEO, Ontario International Airport, will lead this year’s World Trade Week efforts as Chair and Vice Chair, respectively.

For 94 years, World Trade Week, an initiative of the L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce has been the most extensive and unique program of its kind in the country, actively promoting the positive aspects of international trade that are vital to a strong local and national economy. The original week-long observance has grown to more than 30 events, briefings and activities held each year throughout the month of May in Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego and Ventura counties. 

Cindy and Mark will oversee World Trade Week’s 2020 launch during the L.A. Area Chamber’s annual Kickoff Breakfast with more than 800 guests on Tuesday, May 5 at the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown. World Trade Week supports college and high school scholarships, high school student workshops, as well as briefings for civic and business leaders interested in participating in the global economy.

 

About Cindy Allen:

In her role as the Vice President of Regulatory Affairs and Compliance at FedEx Logistics, Cindy is responsible for overseeing the company’s compliance with all current laws and regulations that govern operations everywhere FedEx Logistics does business globally. She and her team work with the various operational entities within the company to see that policies, practices and training reflect the highest standards. Cindy is also responsible for advocating for logistics and international trade to governmental agencies and authorities around the world. Cindy has been active in the international trade industry for 30 years and has held various positions in the areas of import and export operations, consulting, and compliance and automation.

A licensed customs broker since 1990, Cindy is also a Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) and Certified Export Specialist (CES) through the NCBFAA.


About Mark Thorpe:

As Chief Executive Officer of the Ontario International Airport Authority (OIAA), Mark oversees the operations and economic development of Ontario International (ONT) Airport. With over 18 years of experience in the aviation industry, Mark has experience in dealing with more than 40 countries in the Asia/Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Mark played an integral role in the transition of ONT to local control in 2016 understanding the vision for the airport to be customer focused, low-cost, and business friendly. He is committed to transforming the Airport into a magnet for economic development.

Prior to becoming CEO, Mark was the OIAA’s Chief Development Officer. Before that, Mark held leadership roles with Dallas/Fort Worth Airport and Los Angeles World Airports. Mark received his JD-MBA from The George Washington University School of Business and Law School. He received his B.A. in International Business and Latin American History from Arizona State University.
