STATEMENT FROM L.A. AREA CHAMBER PRESIDENT & CEO MARIA S. SALINAS ON THE PASSAGE OF ADDITIONAL FEDERAL RELIEF

LOS ANGELES, CA - December 22, 2020 – The Chamber would like to commend the House and Senate for passing a $900 billion bipartisan coronavirus relief bill last night. The relief package is attached to a $1.4 trillion government spending bill to fund the federal government through Sept. 30, 2021.

Small businesses are struggling to survive the economic crisis brought on by the pandemic. Once signed by the President, this package will provide much needed relief and support for our economy.

"With so many in our region hurting, Congress came through with the nation’s second largest relief package on the eve of the Christmas holiday,” said Maria S. Salinas, President & CEO, Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. “The relief for struggling small businesses will provide an additional $284 billion earmarked for the Paycheck Protection Program which will expand eligibility to nonprofits, local newspapers, along with TV and radio stations. We commend Congress for also including $15 billion in relief for live venues, theaters, cultural institutions and $10 billion in assistance to childcare centers to help working parents. The next step is to work with lending institutions to ensure resources reach those small businesses, nonprofits and business owners.”
