LOS ANGELES, CA – MARCH 18, 2021 – In recent weeks, there have been increasing attacks on the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community throughout California and the United States. These acts of hate were spotlighted by the brutal murder of eight people at three Chinese American owned businesses in Atlanta on March 16, 2021.
The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, whose region covers the highest concentration of Asian owned businesses in the nation, unequivocally condemns these senseless acts of hate and stands with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community against racism.
“There is no excuse for acts of racism and hate,” said Maria S. Salinas, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce. “Crimes against the AAPI community are antithetical to everything we stand for in the Los Angeles region and within the business community. We know that our diversity contributes to the richness of both Los Angeles and the nation, which is why we can never afford to sit idly by when communities are attacked right in front of us.”
Salinas continued with how she plans to show support for the AAPI community, “I encourage Angelenos to join me in supporting our AAPI community. Blatant acts of hate hurt our communities, our businesses, and their forward progress. We must stand with those affected by it to remind the world of the strength and resiliency that comes from our diversity.”
