L.A. AREA CHAMBER RESPONDS TO PROPOSED L.A. CITY VACCINE ORDINANCE_copy

The Los Angeles City Council plans to advance a vaccine mandate ordinance for businesses and events in the City of Los Angeles. The L.A. Area Chamber provided testimony during today’s Council meeting to voice concerns from the business community regarding inconsistencies between the City’s proposed ordinance and the County’s health order that’s already in place.

“We are concerned that the City’s proposed ordinance, because it does not align with health orders from the County of Los Angeles, will cause confusion and hinder our region’s recovery efforts,” said Maria S. Salinas, President and CEO of the L.A. Area Chamber. “The COVID-19 pandemic is not over and the health of our communities is of paramount importance, but this proposal will cause a lack of clarity on guidelines for businesses in and around the L.A. area, especially for those who do business across County lines.”

“We urge the L.A. County and City public health departments to work closely with the business community to minimize the economic impact of these orders when they are enacted so our communities can both stay healthy and continue to provide for themselves,” Salinas said.

She continued, “A statewide mandate will ensure the consistent application and enforcement of guidance from one jurisdiction to the next.”

The L.A. Area Chamber sent a letter to Governor Newsom to highlight the need for statewide vaccine guidelines, what they may look like, and the challenges involved in not having those requirements in place.
