LOS ANGELES, CA – January 31, 2022 – AB 1400, sought to establish a single payer government run healthcare system in California, was not heard, effectively killing the bill. L.A. Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Maria S. Salinas released the following statement in response to the bill being withheld from a vote:
“We support health care that is accessible and affordable. AB 1400 fell short from providing a structure that was financially sound, proposing a significant tax burden to individuals and businesses. We need financially responsible solutions that do not hinder the progress being made by businesses, especially small businesses. We cannot support a health plan funded on the backs of middle class Californians and small businesses who are still struggling from the pandemic.” Chamber President and CEO Maria Salinas said. “The Chamber will continue to advocate for fiscally responsible health care coverage that is accessible and affordable for all Californians,” Salinas concluded.
