L.A. AREA CHAMBER APPLAUDS THE STATE LEGISLATURE FOR ADOPTING SB 1338 (CARE COURT)

LOS ANGELES, CA – September 1, 2022 – The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce applauds the California State Legislature for adopting SB 1338, CARE Court, and advancing it to the Governor’s desk. The legislation represents a paradigm shift in how California invests in and manages mental health infrastructure. The Chamber was a strong advocate of this proposal to ensure its passage in the state legislature.

The proposal intends to provide people with mental health and substance use disorders the support and care they need. Distinct from the conservatorship process, this bill requires the Health and Human Services Agency to establish a cadre of “supporters” who have the obligation to advocate for each person enrolled or potentially enrolled in the CARE program.

“SB 1338 is a long-term strategy to positively impact individuals who need care and support. This plan brings the much-needed investment for treatment and health services. It’s a step in the right direction,” stated president and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, Maria S. Salinas.
