LOS ANGELES (May 3, 2023) — Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Maria S. Salinas, issued the following statement today after the Writers Guild of America went on strike after contract talks with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers broke down:
“Jobs in and around the entertainment industry represent a considerable portion of the regional economy. A shutdown of any kind has a significant impact for not only those within the entertainment industry but the small businesses who work with the industry. Some estimate the last writers’ strike cost the local economy more than $2 billion. We urge both sides to continue a dialog for a speedy resolution.”
