LOS ANGELES (June 29, 2023) — Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Maria S. Salinas, issued the following statement today regarding the Los Angeles City Council’s motion to codify Mayor Karen Bass’ Executive Directive 1:
“We are encouraged with the actions of the Los Angeles City Council to codify Mayor Bass’ Executive Directive 1 which will help expedite the building of affordable and temporary housing projects. By streamlining and eliminating red tape, these projects can move at a faster pace and lower cost, while providing more Angelenos with desperately needed affordable housing.”
Executive Directive 1 accelerates and lowers the cost of building affordable and temporary housing by requiring the city to complete the approval process for affordable housing within 60 days. Once construction starts, the permit, utility and certificate of occupancy process will be completed in just 5 days for 100% affordable housing and in no more than 2 days for temporary housing.
