Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Issues Statement on City Council’s Disaster Rent Freeze & Eviction Moratorium Motion

LOS ANGELES, CA – JANUARY 29, 2024 – The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement regarding the Los Angeles City Council Disaster Rent Freeze & Eviction Moratorium Motion:

“The L.A. Area Chamber is sensitive to the immediate need to assist Angelenos struggling to pay rent as a direct result of the regional wildfires in the Palisades and Eaton areas. However, the Chamber opposes the L.A. City Council’s Disaster Rent Freeze & Eviction Moratorium Motion Item 15 due to the serious, unintended consequences it may cause. This is a critical moment when Los Angeles must attract significant capital to finance the rebuilding of our devastated neighborhoods. We urge the L.A. City Council to not proceed with this motion and to explore alternative methods of providing rent assistance to support our community in need,” stated the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.
