Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Statement on U.S. Department of Education Staff Cuts

LOS ANGELES, CA – March 14, 2025 – The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement regarding the impact of recent staff reductions at the U.S. Department of Education:

“The staff cuts at the U.S. Department of Education come at a time when California is already facing significant challenges in supporting students, educators, and in shaping our future workforce,” said Maria S. Salinas, President and CEO of the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce.

“These reductions will cause irreparable harm to the most vulnerable students and families while severely impacting special education and workforce training programs—both of which are critical to ensuring economic opportunity and long-term growth for Californians, and the nation. Now more than ever, we must prioritize investments in education and workforce development to build a stronger, more resilient economy.”

The Chamber remains committed to working with local, state, and federal partners to advocate for policies that strengthen public education and workforce training initiatives.
