L.A. Area Chamber Releases Statement Citing Tariffs’ Damaging Impact on Regional Economy

LOS ANGELES, CA – April 17, 2025 – The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce issued the following statement in response to the proposed implementation of broad-based tariffs:

The Chamber strongly opposes sweeping tariffs that disrupt trade and disproportionately impact small businesses—the backbone of our regional economy.

“As the nation’s gateway to the Pacific Rim, Los Angeles depends on international trade. Tariffs threaten our competitiveness, raise costs for consumers, and hinder job growth,” said Maria S. Salinas, President & CEO of the L.A. Area Chamber.

“Uncertainty in trade policy creates instability for businesses of all sizes, especially small businesses, which often lack the resources to absorb price fluctuations and supply chain disruptions. These businesses drive innovation, create local jobs, and support families across Los Angeles County. They deserve a predictable, fair environment in which to compete globally.”

The Chamber urges policymakers to adopt trade solutions that open markets, lower barriers, and provide clear, long-term strategies to restore economic confidence and promote sustained growth.
