ACCESS D.C.
L.A. Area Chamber – Daily Briefing | March 13, 2024

Welcome to ACCESS D.C. 2024!

Over 130 delegates have joined us this year at the nation’s capital for the Chamber’s annual advocacy trip to meet with policymakers in Washington D.C. to share information about the pressing issues facing the Los Angeles region. This year our advocacy agenda squarely focuses on California’s competitiveness and the potential economic opportunities for businesses and communities which align with major global events that Los Angeles will be hosting soon. Yesterday evening, we welcomed many of you at our kick off reception at the beautiful Amazon Visitor Landing in Arlington, Virginia. We were thankful for the comments shared by our Board Chair Janet Lamkin and Andrea Fava, Vice President of U.S. Public Policy at Amazon.

Secretary Xavier Becerra Shares Strategies to Reduce Health Care Costs

This morning, ACCESS D.C. attendees were treated to an informative fireside chat with Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Xavier Becerra, moderated by Chamber President and CEO Maria S. Salinas. The two discussed the measures the Administration is taking to reduce prescription and catastrophic care costs for those on Medicare and cyber security for health providers. Becerra also shared his strategies to rethink health care to be more preventative before issues begin. With an aging population, Becerra discussed how the Administration is looking to strengthen the direct care workforce, and the care economy by providing resources to those who provide and need care.

Fireside Chat with Paul Kincaid

Paul Kincaid, Associate Administrator at the Federal Transit Administration, joined ACCESS D.C. to discuss the need for policies, resources and investments which prepare our regional economy for major world events and long-term economic prosperity for L.A. residents. These investments in infrastructure include roads, environmentally responsible transit, energy and water. In preparation for the upcoming global events coming to L.A., investments are being made to build mobility hubs to transform how Angelenos move around the region.

During her short time in the Senate, Butler is looking to establish the unexpected partnerships to help propel our country forward, and to ensure we include California’s perspective on critical Senate Committees.
