ACCESS D.C.
L.A. Area Chamber – Daily Briefing | March 14, 2024

Welcome back for our final day in Washington D.C. for ACCESS D.C. This week has been action-packed and we were excited to continue the momentum into day two.

Yesterday the Chamber delegation was hosted for an intimate reception at the Valero Energy Corporation’s Washington, D.C. offices. We would like to thank Valero and Brissa Sotelo-Vargas, Director, Community Relations, and Lauren Sheehan, Director, Federal Government Affairs, for welcoming us to their beautiful space.

Delegation Teams Share Meeting Insights

This morning the 10 delegation teams shared insights from the over 30 meetings held with elected officials at the Capitol yesterday. Some of the meeting highlights include:
  • Senator Alex Padilla discussed the authorization of funding bills to support infrastructure, as well as the necessary investment in mental health, transportation, ports, broadband infrastructure and clean energy.
  • Representative Ted Lieu met and discussed the needed equipment and infrastructure investment for the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, public utility infrastructure support and affordable housing development projects.
  • Representative Maxine Waters met and discussed innovative solutions to address the region's housing shortage, as well as ways to ensure California's competitiveness with technical assistance and increased access capital for small businesses.
  • Representative Adam Schiff met and discussed regional competitiveness, infrastructure, workforce development, education and national policy in childcare.

Fireside Chat with U.S. Department of Energy’s Alejandro Moreno

The Chamber’s last fireside chat of ACCESS D.C. 2024 included an engaging discussion, “Energy Transition: Innovations, Jobs, Skills and Federal Resources,” with Alejandro Moreno, who serves as Associate Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy with the U.S. Department of Energy. He was joined by moderator and Cordoba Corporation Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer, Randall Martinez. The two discussed the strategies being employed by the U.S. Department of Energy to spur innovation, encourage diversity within the sector, and the pivots being made to reach sustainability goals.

The Chamber’s final day of the ACCESS D.C. advocacy trip was highlighted by engaging meetings with leaders from the White House, Congress, the Office of Energy Efficiency & Renewable Energy, and more.
