Board Brief
I hope you had a restful Memorial Day weekend. We are back this week for our 100th World Trade Week celebration. We are excited to see many of you tomorrow.

Last week, Carlos and I had a busy but productive week in Washington, D.C. with Mobility 21, the regional transportation coalition. The Chamber led discussions on the region's transportation investment needs as it prepares for 2028.
SAVE-THE-DATE — BOARD MEETING — THURSDAY, JUNE 11
We will be hosting our third-quarter Board meeting on Thursday, June 11 at the Pasadena Tournament of Roses Tournament House. This meeting will take place one week after the election. We will provide a debrief on the outcome of the primary election and the path to the November general election. We will also provide an update on the launch of Rally LA.

Further details will be shared over the next couple of weeks.
PUBLIC POLICY UPDATE
A big win for business after a 3-year journey on the Living Wage Ordinance. Last week, a deal was reached between City of Los Angeles leaders, labor, and business groups, resulting in escalating the minimum wage to $30 by 2030, instead of 2028. The compromise also included proponents withdrawing the repeal of the Gross Receipts Tax (GRT) and forming a committee to continue to consider reforms to the GRT. The Chamber has been tracking this issue, the Tourism motion, since it was introduced in 2024. We will continue to bring ideas to potential reforms to the current gross receipts tax calculation.

The Los Angeles City Council approved the Mayor’s budget, which includes plans to hire more LAPD officers, address encampments, and fix more streets.

See our Public Policy Update for the latest Policy news.
HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK
  • As part of the Mobility 21 delegation meetings in the nation's capital, we are encouraged by the progress Congress is making on one of the business community’s top priorities: the surface transportation bill, known as BUILD America 250 Act. The legislation would provide much-needed funding for the nation’s road, highway, bridge, transit, and rail programs.
