ACCESS LA - Oct 9
PUBLIC POLICY UPDATE
  • The Chamber is actively engaging with the Governor’s Office on several key bills. The Governor has until October 13 to take action on the legislation awaiting his decision.
  • Mayor Karen Bass, alongside a broad coalition of business and community leaders, signed off on the L.A. Convention Center modernization and expansion plan. This transformative project will boost tourism, create jobs, and strengthen our local economy — and the Chamber has been a strong advocate throughout the process.

HIGHLIGHTS FROM LAST WEEK
  • I was pleased to represent the Chamber at a fireside chat and panel discussion during the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) entrepreneurship event in New York City, hosted by the Business Council for International Understanding (BCIU) in partnership with the Ares Charitable Foundation. I highlighted the Chamber’s efforts to support small businesses, our wildfire recovery initiatives, and the Get in the Game program.

  • Thank you to Paul Granillo, President & CEO, Inland Empire Economic Partnership, for inviting me to participate in the Latina Economic & Policy Summit, highlighting Latinas in the economy, health, wellness, wealth creation, and housing. I was pleased to moderate a discussion on Culture, Careers, & Care with Senator Rosilicie Ochoa, Dr. Evita Limon-Rocha, and Jessica Rodriguez.

  • I joined the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles (HACLA) at the Jordan Downs Community Center in Watts, participating in a roundtable with partner agencies on the impact of public-private partnerships in expanding housing. The convening brought together representatives from the State of California, the City of Los Angeles, and business and community leaders to discuss future opportunities for collaboration.

  • Thank you to Bank of America for hosting me at this year’s Velocity Conference, which highlighted business, media, entrepreneurship, and Latino business. I especially enjoyed seeing some of our members highlighted, including Raul A. Anaya, Bank of America, and Kevin Demoff, Los Angeles Rams.

  • In Case You Missed It: The Chamber hosted its inaugural Pints & Politics with the Hon. Eric Garcetti, former U.S. Ambassador to India and 42nd Mayor of Los Angeles, for a casual conversation on policy and politics in our region. Over a pint at Audio Graph Beer Co. in Downtown L.A., he reflected on his years in public service and shared insights on housing, transportation, and other pressing challenges.
