 Leadership L.A. driving change with new cohort of 54 fellows Today, 54 leaders of business, government and non-profit gathered at the Los Angeles Times building as a part of the two-day kickoff for the Leadership L.A. Class of 2015. The fellows, who are embarking on an eight-month, experiential-based program, will explore L.A. County's unique assets and the challenges facing our region. Chamber meets with U.S. Ambassador to Brazil Earlier today, the Chamber and the Business Council for International Understanding hosted the U.S. Ambassador to Brazil, the Honorable Liliana Ayalde. Ambassador Ayalde provided Chamber Board members with political and economic updates, including the impact of the re-election of President Rouseff, plans and opportunities related to the 2016 Summer Olympic Games, and other current commercial and investment opportunities. Ensuring L.A. community colleges meet the needs of the workforce The L.A. Area Chamber and the L.A. County Economic Development Corporation held a Strong Workforce Town Hall meeting on Wednesday to listen to feedback regarding ways the community college system can more effectively meet regional workforce needs. Community colleges contribute significantly to the area's workforce and economy, but more needs to be done to meet growing demands of local, high-growth industries. Student leaders and business leaders looking to collaborate Wednesday, as a part of the Student Speaker Series hosted by the National Campus Leadership Council, student leaders in the greater L.A. area met with local business leaders at the Chamber to discuss challenges in navigating local skills gaps and the level of workforce readiness. A big conversation about small business Yesterday, the Chamber's Small Business Council, in conjunction with the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program, the Small Business Council hosted a panel discussion featuring alumni panelists who provided success stories and insight into upcoming trends and projections for 2015.
