Chamber joins LABC, UCLA to launch campaign for Solar Feed-in Tariff program
The Chamber joined the Los Angeles Business Council (LABC) and a coalition of business, environmental and nonprofit organizations Thursday to launch a campaign to create a 600-megawatt Solar Feed-in Tariff (FiT) program. The FiT would create thousands of local green jobs and generate enough clean energy to meet three percent of Los Angeles' needs. The program would facilitate private investment to meet renewable energy goals by enabling residents and business to install solar panels on their property and sell the power generated back to the electrical grid. "When we're creating a solar program in the City of L.A., we are going to approach sustainability with sustainability, to make sure this program has staying power," said Chief Deputy Mayor for the City of Los Angeles Jay Carson. This proposal was developed based on a report issued by the UCLA Luskin Center for Innovation and the LABC.

Chamber testifies in support of California job creation through high speed rail
The Chamber testified in support of high speed rail Thursday at the California High Speed Rail Authority's Board of Directors meeting. Supporting high-speed rail will lead to job creation, environmental improvements and congestion reduction, and 450,000 permanent jobs are expected to be created by 2035 as a result of the economic growth the high-speed rail system will bring to California. Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa also voiced his support for the plan. "This is an infrastructure solution to relieve one of the most congested regions in the country."
