Chamber and Mobility 21 members joined Monday to honor outgoing Metro CEO Roger Snoble. A Chamber Board Member, Snoble led Metro to top national awards for excellence in more than seven years on the job. He co-founded the Mobility 21 coalition and was instrumental in the passage of the Measure R half-cent sales tax that will fund a comprehensive package of new transit, street and highway improvements in Los Angeles County for the next 30 years. Chamber encourages collaboration on a citywide solar plan
The Chamber has been working to advocate for a comprehensive solar program to expand the city's use of clean renewable energy, build a vibrant solar industry that creates good-paying jobs in the region and minimize the overall cost increases for city ratepayers. The Chamber commends City Council President Eric Garcetti and Councilmembers Jan Perry and Wendy Greuel for introducing a resolution to begin a collaborative effort on solar development in Los Angeles and urges strong public input. Chamber discusses community energy planning
The Chamber, the Consulate General of Germany and the Transatlantic Climate Bridge discussed challenges and successes in greening today's economy Friday at the Chamber. Dr. Stefan Bluem, head of the Department of Energy for the German company MVV decon GmBH, and Peter Garforth, Garforth International LLC, briefed the Chamber on sustainable and efficient-energy models such as those implemented in the city of Manheim, Germany. Garforth urged the city of Los Angeles to integrate greening efforts on both the public policy and departmental level, and apply lessons learned from successful green communities. Kaiser Permanente opens state-of-the-art hospital in Hollywood
The $600 million, 400-bed replacement facility on Sunset Boulevard, next to the existing Los Angeles Medical Center, includes the most advanced medical technologies. "Our members come first," said Dr. Benjamin Chu, president of Kaiser Permanente Southern California. "They deserve the best healthcare, and we are making sure they get it today and in the future." Disney cruise ship to call Port of Los Angeles home
The 964-foot-long Disney Wonder, currently based in Port Canaveral, Fla., will move to the Port of Los Angeles in 2011, which could create 2,600 jobs in the region. The ship could draw an estimated 250,000 customers to the port over five years. Read More.
Plains All American Pipeline takes important step forward on project
Plains All American Pipeline, L.P. received a victory yesterday when the L.A. City Council's Trade, Commerce and Tourism Committee unanimously denied an appeal by the Coalition for a Safe Environment of Plains All American Pipeline's Pier 400 project. The Chamber testified in support of the project, which the L.A. City Council will hear soon. Read more.
