Chamber leads business community helping to ensure a more prepared workforce
California State Superintendent Tom Torlakson released the results for the 2016 California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) Wednesday, showing students improving across the State and locally. The L.A. area business community, led by the Chamber, played a key role in developing the new assessments that now better gauge students for the skills, knowledge and expertise needed to succeed in work and life. By adopting a more comprehensive test, the end result will be graduates who are better prepared for college and the workforce. The Chamber's Executive Vice President of Education & Workforce Development, David Rattray, provided the business community's perspective at the press event with State Superintendent Torlakson, LAUSD School Board President Steve Zimmer and LAUSD Superintendent Michelle King. READ THE RELEASE.
BOTTOM LINE: CAASPP test scores reveal California is on the right track to build a strong workforce, but more work is needed to continue this progress.

L.A. City Council approves LAX MOU backed by Chamber
Yesterday, the L.A. City Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the City, Los Angeles World Airports and the Alliance for a Regional Solution to Airport Congestion, that would end a community-initiated lawsuit against the Chamber-supported Specific Plan Amendment Study (SPAS), which the City Council approved in 2013. The MOU allows LAX to move forward on a variety of north airfield safety improvement projects.
