BECOME A PRINCIPAL FOR A DAY

Take part in the 13th Annual Principal for a Day event on Friday, Feb. 24. This is a unique opportunity to join hundreds of business and community leaders in the sharing of ideas, resources and a sense of responsibility for our schools. You will have the experience of shadowing a school administrator as they carry on their day-to-day duties, and learn about the triumphs and challenges of running a public school. The event is hosted by Pillar, a partnership between the Chamber and the Los Angeles Unified School District. The deadline to register is Friday, Feb. 10. Chamber meets with U.S. Dept. of Transportation Secretary on high speed rail
On Wednesday, Chamber President & CEO Gary Toebben and several Chamber Board members took part in a business community discussion at The California Endowment with U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa in support of the California High Speed Rail project. "This will create jobs for Californians," Secretary LaHood said. "We need the business community. When we make transportation investments, people go to work." The Chamber supports high speed rail and will continue to advocate for the next leg of the project to come to Southern California. Contact Jessica Duboff, 213.580.7558.

Chamber receives briefing on doing business in Belgium
The United States is currently the No. 1 investor in Wallonia, Belgium, with U.S.-Belgian trade reaching $43 billion last year. "Wallonia, Belgium has become a destination of U.S. corporate attention," said Geert Criel, Consul General of Belgium in Los Angeles, at a special briefing on Wednesday at the Chamber. Daoud Ghalimi from the Belgian Trade Commission in San Francisco, pictured above, discussed the benefits of doing business in Wallonia, noting its central location in Europe and its access to several sector clusters including aeronautical, biotech, cleantech, logistics and IT. Southern California Leadership Network hosting Global Connections Summit
Attend a complimentary half-day summit on Thursday, Feb. 23, sponsored by the California Community Foundation, to discuss the impact of Southern California's immigrant communities. The Global Connections Summit will also discuss the New American Leaders Fellowship, SCLN's new initiative targeting first and second generation American leaders from Southern California's immigrant populations.
