Chamber-supported Office of Economic Analysis proposal passed by City Council
The L.A. City Council unanimously voted Wednesday in favor of a motion by L.A. City Council President Eric Garcetti to ask the city's Chief Administrative Officer and the Chief Legislative Analyst to develop a proposal that would establish a mandatory economic impact analysis for city initiatives that could affect private sector jobs, the business climate and the overall economy. The Economic Impact Analysis model is successfully used in San Francisco and was highlighted at the Chamber's Board of Directors Planning Retreat in October. The proposal is a direct result of the Chamber's efforts over the past six months and the support from other business groups including BizFed, Valley Industry and Commerce Association and the . Chamber discusses trade with Korean Ambassador to the United States
Korean Ambassador Duk-Soo Han spoke about United States and South Korea relations at a luncheon Tuesday at the Chamber. Ambassador Han focused on the importance of the Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement (KORUS FTA) and on the international challenges Korea and the United States face, including recovery from the economic recession and nuclear proliferation issues. "The KORUS FTA can be regarded as an economic stimulus package," he said. "It will create jobs when America needs them the most." Ambassador Han also discussed the positive affect the Joint Vision created by Korean President Lee Myung-bak and President Barack Obama will have on the United States. Leadership Southern California receives economics 101 lesson and focuses on L.A.
The Leadership Southern California Class of 2010 Fellows received two days of seminars last week starting with an “Economics for Civic Leaders” lesson from Christopher Thornberg, Beacon Economics, who discussed economic trends, forecasting and assessment at The Music Center of Los Angeles. The next day the class focused on the people, places and trends shaping Los Angeles with an economic analysis and discussion around “Perspectives on Los Angeles,” with Chamber Board Chair Fran Inman, Majestic Realty Co., Los Angeles Unified School District Board of Education President Mónica García, and The California Endowment CEO Dr. Robert K.
