The Chamber Holds Official Mayoral Forum in Downtown Los Angeles

The Chamber hosted a townhall style Mayoral Forum at The Music Center in Downtown L.A featuring several candidates seeking to become the next Mayor of Los Angeles. The event gave Chamber members an opportunity to hear directly from each candidate as they provided remarks and answered questions from the audience on key issues. Topics included housing and homelessness, public safety, environment sustainability, business retention, and workforce development. The event included: Congresswoman Karen Bass, City Attorney Mike Feuer, Councilmember Kevin de León, and Councilmember Joe BuscainoIt was a great discussion to deepen our understanding of each candidate’s platform and positions.

Chamber President & CEO Maria S. Salinas remarked, “The incoming Mayor will set the direction and vision for the next chapter of the city, and must have the courage to set a bold plan to lead the region.”  Electing the next Mayor will be transformative for Los Angeles and the Chamber will continue to engage in civic discourse which ensure our community is educated on the issues and is engaged in this very important election. To watch the Mayoral Forum, go to the L.A. Transportation & Goods Movement Council Convenes Session with METRO

The Transportation & Goods Movement Council met this week to discuss METRO’s legislative priorities. Michael Turner, Deputy Executive Officer of Government Relations, gave an update on METRO’s state priorities, and Raffi Hamparian, Senior Director of Federal Affairs, gave an update on METRO’s Federal priorities. The Chamber continues to work on state and federal transportation priorities for the region. Look out for further updates from the Transportation & Goods Movement Council.  

Mayor Garcetti's State of the City Address

On Thursday, April 14, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti delivered the State of the City address. His remarks highlighted the need to focus on our region’s public safety priorities which will be reflected in his upcoming budget. He further noted that we are living through a year of transition, as we move beyond the pandemic. Watch the Mayor’s address here.

Future of Work Symposium Hosted by The Alliance for SoCal

L.A. Area Chamber President and CEO Maria S. Salinas participated in The Future of Work Symposium produced by The Alliance for SoCal innovation in collaboration with The Downtown Business Improvement District (DCBID). The program provided an opportunity to lean in with new ideas, new evidence, and out of the box thinking on how work, workplaces, and spaces are transforming in a post-pandemic economy.

Small Business Training Program Hosted by the Chamber and Meta

Meta, a Diamond Club and Board member, along with the Chamber are partnering to host Meta Boost, a training program in Los Angeles. Attendees will learn how to jumpstart their business with free tools from Meta. They’ll learn how to set up a business page, communicating with their customers, and how to manage their marketing. The Chamber continues its advocacy and in support for the small business community. The Chamber congratulates Michele Ruiz, President & CEO of BiasSync for the recognition from the Los Angeles Business Journal.

BiasSync was named the Los Angeles Business Journal's 2022 Diversity, Equity + Inclusion Honoree: Company of the Year.

Michele, a Chamber Board member, has founded several businesses and is passionate about her work in diversity, equity, and inclusion. Before becoming an entrepreneur, Michele Ruiz enjoyed a long career as an award-winning television broadcast journalist in Los Angeles. Congratulations Michele!

PACE President & CEO, Kerry Doi, Testifies in Congressional Hearing on SBA Loan Program

On March 29, 2022, the House Small Business Committee’s Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Tax and Capital Access held a hearing to examine the role of community lenders in the Small Business Administration (SBA) programs. PACE President and CEO, Kerry Doi, was invited to testify at the hearing on PACE Business’ experience with the SBA Microloan program. New Website Will Help Small Businesses Work with DOD

The Pentagon will launch a website next week to help small businesses cut through the bureaucracy and get contracts with the department, confirms Deputy Defense Secretary Kathleen Hicks. Read more here.

Chamber to Award Over $20k in Scholarships

Eight exceptional college and high school students from the region were selected to receive over $20,000 in scholarships through the Chamber’s World Trade Week Southern California Education program. The students and their generous sponsors will be recognized via YouTube Premier on April 27 at 4:00 pm as we celebrate the future of trade.
