Krekorian emphasized local efforts to establish an independent redistricting commission, empower voters, manage the city budget, improve public safety in L.A. and Metro projects, and how the council is working to break down barriers to doing business in Los Angeles. |

Business Community Welcomes Deputy Mayor Freeman
The L.A. Area Chamber hosted a welcome reception this week for Rachel Freeman, Deputy Mayor of Business & Economic Development, to introduce her to business leaders from throughout the City of Los Angeles. The event was co-hosted by business partners Hollywood Chamber, VICA, CCA, BizFed, and PACE. Deputy Mayor Freeman shared her goals in supporting Mayor Bass’ vision for business in Los Angeles. |

NASA, JPL Host Cybersecurity Discussion
The Office of the National Cyber Director began a five-city tour for meetings with private sector space exploration companies to discuss cybersecurity in space. The meeting, hosted by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), brought together cybersecurity experts in the space industry to provide feedback and help shape policy. The group was welcomed by Lieutenant General Larry D. James (Ret. Air Force), NASA JPL Deputy Director, the office of Mayor Bass, and the Chamber. |

Attorney General Bonta Visits Chamber
The Chamber hosted California Attorney General Rob Bonta with CEO’s from the region to discuss the role of his office and his engagement with the business community. The attorney general spoke of key issues important to the business community: housing underproduction, retail crime, and environmental regulations. Bonta also spoke about collaboration and continued engagement with the business community. |

DTLA Community Plan Approved
The Los Angeles Planning and Land Use Committee approved the DTLA 2040 Community Plan on Monday for downtown Los Angeles. Chamber policy staff testified at City Hall in support of the plan, which includes policies, programs, and zoning updates to address the housing crisis and establish the framework for a vibrant and sustainable downtown. |

Chamber Joins Water Infrastructure Networking Summit
The Chamber's Chief of Public Policy, Patricia Torres Bruno, participated in a “mega panel” at the Water Infrastructure Networking Summit (WINS) which included unions, environmental organizations, local elected officials, water-appointed leadership, and businesses for a conversation on how CEQA is no longer serving its original intent. The keynote speaker was California Infrastructure Advisor, and former Los Angeles Mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa. |

Chamber Attends Reception for Chinese Consul General
Guo Shaochun, Consul General (Ambassadorial-Rank) of the People's Republic of China in Los Angeles, was introduced to the community at a reception last week at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City. The event was attended by 500 guests, including Chamber members, dignitaries from the U.S. State Department, the California Governor's Office, the Los Angeles Mayor's Office, and state and local elected officials, as well as several Los Angeles-based consulates. |

U.S. and Kenya Hold Strategic Dialogue
The U.S. and Kenya governments held talks in the U.S.-Kenya Bilateral Strategic Dialogue in Washington, D.C. The U.S. Secretary of State Antony J. Blinken and Dr. Alfred Mutua, Kenyan Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, discussed strengthening the bilateral relationship across all pillars of the strategic partnership: economic prosperity, trade, and investment; defense cooperation; democracy, governance, and civilian security; multilateral and regional issues; and health cooperation. |

Chamber Welcomes Chilean Ambassador and Delegation
The Chamber's Global Team was part of a delegation that met with Chilean Ambassador Juan Gabriel Valdes to discuss increasing trade between Chile and the Southern California region, sustainability, and green hydrogen energy. The delegation consisted of Ian Frederick, Chair of the Diplomatic & Commercial Officers Group (DCOG) and Trade Commissioner for Chile's government export promotion bureau (Pro Chile), Noel Hacegaba, Deputy Executive Director for the Port of Long Beach, and Marisela Caraballo DiRuggiero, Director of Trade Development for the Port of Los Angeles. |

Los Angeles Community College District's Building Program
The Los Angeles Community College District’s $14.9 billion building program seeks to modernize and renovate projects across its nine colleges. The Board of Trustees has set a 30% Local, Small, Emerging, and Disabled Veteran (LSEDV) participation goal for all BuildLACCD contracts. The district is also encouraging minority, women, and LGBTQ business participation. An information session with BuildLACCD and the Small Business Administration is scheduled for May 30.
