Honoring Women's History Month With YMCA
The L.A. Area Chamber was honored to celebrate Women’s History Month at the first Women in Leadership event of the year. The new CEO for the YWCA, Lori Carmona, was the featured keynote for the sold-out event, hosted at the historic Hollywood Studio Club. The event also featured an engaging panel discussion with Zoila Escobar, President of the AltaMed Foundation and Executive Vice President & Chief Administrative Officer of AltaMed Health Services; Theresa Edy Kiene, CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles; Nella McOsker, President and CEO of Central City Association; and Natalie Samarjian, CEO of Coro Southern California.

Dodgers Kick Off Opening Day
Last week was the official opening day for the Los Angeles Dodgers who kicked off their 2024 season with a two-game matchup against the San Diego Padres in Seoul, South Korea as part of a home-and-home series. On Thursday, March 28, the Dodgers opened at home and defeated the St. Louis Cardinals. We'd like to wish the Dodger organization the best of luck during this MLB season.

Congress Passes $1.2 Trillion Spending Bill, Avoids Shutdown
Last week, Congress narrowly avoided a government shutdown by passing a $1.2 trillion spending bill to fund critical agencies related to defense, financial services, homeland security, health and human services and more through the fiscal year of 2024. The Chamber commends the efforts made by key decision makers in Washington to successfully avoid this possibility, which would have caused significant damage to federal programs and operations. Chamber Opposes Opt-Out Preference Legislation
On Monday, March 25, the L.A. Area Chamber signed onto a coalition letter opposing AB 3048, which pertains to the California Consumer Privacy Act of 2018: Opt-in as introduced February 16, 2024. This bill effectively makes universal opt-out preference mechanisms mandatory under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) to transmit consumers’ opt-out preferences to businesses that they interact with online. The Chamber will continue to strongly advocate to oppose AB 3048 as as it advances in the process.

The Chamber Discusses Federal Healthcare Contracting Opportunities

Women’s History Month
Natalie Samarjian is the CEO of Coro Southern California. She earned her Juris Doctorate from UCLA School of Law, her Master of Science at the Heinz School of Public Policy & Management at Carnegie Mellon University, and her Bachelor of Arts at UCLA. Natalie is an alumnus of the Coro Fellows Program in Public Affairs and Emerge California, and was a recipient of the Empowerment Congress’ Emerging Civic Leaders 40 Under 40 award and a recipient of LA Impact-Makers to Watch award. Natalie serves on the boards of Public Counsel and the UCLA Alumni Association.
