New Assembly Speaker Elected
Assemblymember Robert Rivas was sworn in as 71st Speaker of the California State Assembly last Friday in a planned leadership transition which had been anticipated for months. Speaker Rivas has served in the Assembly since 2018, representing Hollister, the 29th Assembly District. The Chamber congratulated Speaker Rivas and looks forward to working with him. County Supervisor Horvath Visits Chamber
Lindsey P. Horvath, 3rd District County Supervisor, visited the Chamber to speak at our Accenture Pancakes & Politics series. Horvath shared her experiences in her first months as a County Supervisor, including how the county can invest in developing the future of Los Angeles County. She also discussed transportation, infrastructure, water resiliency and safety. Supervisor Horvath also explored how streamlining government processes could help address regional challenges such as the homelessness crisis and supporting mental health programs. |

Deputy Mayor Rachel Freeman Joins Small Business Summit
Rachel Freeman, Los Angeles Deputy Mayor for Business and Economic Development, joined the Chamber Foundation's Small Business Summit last week to deliver a keynote on small business initiatives from the Bass administration. The Deputy Mayor spoke about Executive Directive 4, which establishes a steering committee to urgently identify burdensome processes and fees which impede small business creation, development and growth in the city. Honoring Former Rep. Lucille Roybal-Allard
Chamber President and CEO, Maria S. Salinas, attended a celebratory luncheon hosted by LA Metro to honor former Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard. The former member of Congress was instrumental in supporting mobility-enhancing projects across Los Angeles County in her 20 years in Congress Metro President & CEO Stephanie Wiggins hosted Mayor Karen Bass, former Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Rep. Tony Cárdenas, and former staffers, to celebrate the Congresswoman’s distinguished career. |

Chamber Letter Opposes State Transportation Bill
The Chamber delivered a new coalition letter to Senator Lena Gonzalez, Chair of the California State Senate Transportation Committee, and transportation leadership officials to oppose Assembly Bill 7. The bill, even with new amendments, removes local transportation control and adds a burdensome and unclear state-mandated layer of bureaucracy to crucial transportation funding and local projects while jeopardizing local sales tax funds. City Council Appoints Padilla
Imelda Padilla was approved by the Los Angeles City Council to serve as representative for Council District 6. The Chamber congratulated Councilmember Padilla on her appointment. Padilla, endorsed by the L.A. Jobs PAC, declared victory in the Council District 6 race, and has been appointed to the seat while results of the special election are certified after the summer recess. Residents of the district have not had representation since the city council seat became vacant last year. |

Chamber Meets Talamus Health
The Chamber met with Dr. Murisiku Raifu of Talamus Health, a hybrid cloud-based software platform delivering healthcare services in emerging markets in Africa. The meeting explored how Talamus Health's innovative technology could be leveraged in the U.S. as well as how to amplify export promotion from Africa to the U.S. |

U.S. Department of Commerce Hosts IPEF Meeting
U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo hosted an Indo-Pacific Economic Framework for Prosperity (IPEF) virtual ministerial meeting which was attended by representatives from Australia, Brunei, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Philippines, the Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam. The Commerce Department announced the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) approved $300 million in financing for sustainable infrastructure projects, including in eligible IPEF member countries who become part of the IPEF clean economy agreement currently being negotiated. |
