Chamber Hosts CA - Mexico Business Forum
The Chamber, in partnership with the US-Mexico Business Association (AEM) and the Mexican Consulate in Los Angeles, hosted the California-Mexico Forum. This two-day event highlighted the economic ties between Mexico and California, featuring discussions on bilateral relations under new U.S. and Mexican government leadership and the upcoming review of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The forum brought together a Mexican delegation, business leaders, and civic representatives from Southern California. Panelists included industry experts and the Secretary of Economic Development and Innovation of Baja California, Mexico.

State Legislature Reconvenes
On Monday, the state legislature reconvened for a special session and swearing-in ceremonies for new lawmakers. The chambers re-elected Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas and Senate Pro Tempore Mike McGuire. Notably, both the State Assembly and State Senate voted to lower their bill introduction limits. They adjourned until January 6.

Rick Cole, Chief Deputy Controller Joins Pancakes & Politics
Rick Cole, Chief Deputy Controller of the City of Los Angeles, was a guest speaker at the Chamber's latest Pancakes & Politics session. He discussed the state of the city's budget, highlighting how the L.A. Area Chamber can bring its thought leadership and strategic thinking to the City of Los Angeles. Cole emphasized that the Chamber and its members possess two invaluable assets: expertise and the ability to drive economic growth in L.A. Cole is also a newly elected member of the Pasadena City Council.

L.A. County Board of Supervisors Approves Motion to Streamline LAHSA
Last week, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion for a feasibility study on establishing a new county department focused solely on serving people who are unhoused or at risk of homelessness. The motion also aims to streamline the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) by retaining only its core functions. The vote was 4-0, with Supervisor Mitchell abstaining. Additionally, the meeting included a report and recommendations from the county’s Auditor-Controller’s Office on the recent audit of LAHSA’s management and financial practices. Chamber Hosts Deputy Mayor of Infrastructure Randall Winston
This week the Chamber's Transportation & Goods Movement Policy Council hosted the Los Angeles City Deputy Mayor of Infrastructure, Randall Winston. Deputy Mayor Winston discussed Mayor Bass' recent Executive Directive (ED 9), "Streamlining Capital Project Delivery and Equitably Investing in the Public Right-of-Way." The discussion shared information about implementing the capital improvement plan, infrastructure needs, and funding ahead of upcoming global events in the region. The Chamber will continue to work with the Mayor’s office on infrastructure planning for the city.

Chamber Welcomes General Manager of IT for L.A. County Internal Services
This week, the L.A. Area Chamber's Innovation & Technology Policy Council hosted a highly informative meeting with guest speaker Miriam Avalos, the first Latina-appointed General Manager of Information Technology for the Los Angeles County Internal Services Department. Miriam shared insights on how Chamber members can support the department, discussed her experiences working for the county, and explored the potential impact of Artificial Intelligence on the workforce.

Chamber Testifies in Support of Television City Project
This week, the Chamber submitted public comment supporting the Television City (TVC) Studio 2050 Plan at the Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee meeting. The TVC Plan aims to continue existing studio operations while modernizing and expanding media production facilities on the approximately 25-acre Television City site. The plan is expected to create jobs in the Beverly/Fairfax neighborhood and improve walkability and public safety, while also supporting small businesses. The Chamber has previously supported the project at the Los Angeles City Planning Commission and will continue to advocate for its approval.

Ambassador Carlos Gonzalez, Consul General of Mexico in Los Angeles, hosted the opening reception of the California-Mexico Business Forum. During the event, Duncan Wood, President & CEO of the Pacific Council, shared his insights on potential challenges arising from the new U.S. and Mexico government leadership, and explored the possible outcomes that could impact both countries and businesses.
