Chamber Hosts Deputy Secretary of Treasury

The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce hosted Wally Adeyemo, Deputy Secretary of the Treasury, and small business leaders for a roundtable discussion on the Inflation Reduction Act. Regional business owners attended the event to discuss how to scale equity to unlock the full potential of the economy, the transition to green energy, how to develop and keep the next generation of workforce talent in the region, as well as how the future is here in L.A.

Metro Board to Utilize Property for Temporary and Permanent Housing

The Los Angeles Metro Board has unanimously approved a motion to repurpose Metro-owned properties for temporary and permanent housing. The motion was introduced by Board members Mayor Karen Bass, Metro Board Chair Ara Najarian, Los Angeles County Supervisors Janice Hahn, Holly Mitchell, and Hilda Solis, and Los Angeles City Council President Paul Krekorian. For Mayor Bass, the measure is another step in her efforts to address the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles.

Health Net Brings No-Cost Mental Telehealth Services to L.A. Schoolchildren

The Los Angeles County Office of Education and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health will provide more than 1.3 million students with access to no-cost mental telehealth services. Health Net and L.A. Care Health Plan have partnered to allocate up to $24 million over two years to cover the costs of using these innovative services through Hazel Health. The Los Angeles Unified School District previously decided to implement the services.

L.A. County to End COVID-19 State of Emergency

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion to end COVID-19 emergency declarations on March 31 in the wake of L.A. and California ending their emergency orders. Supervisor Janice Hahn's motion was approved on Tuesday. However, Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer says it does not mean that all infection control measures will immediately disappear.

Homelessness Task Force and Chamber Meet with Chief of Housing

The Ad Hoc on Homelessness Committee, under the Land Use, Housing and Construction Policy Council, hosted a special briefing with Mercedes Márquez, L.A. City Chief of Housing and Homelessness Solutions, this week. Chief Márquez briefed the Chamber on the Mayor’s "Inside Safe" initiative, current work, and how the Chamber can support the City’s efforts in addressing homelessness. Watch the recording here.

L.A. County Board of Supervisors Independent Review of Governance Structure

On Tuesday, the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisors Holly J. Mitchell and Lindsey P. Horvath, calling for an independent review of the county's governance structure. The review will focus on recommendations to increase public participation and transparency in the policymaking process, including the possibility of expanding the board. You can read the motion here.

Mexican Delegation Visits the Chamber

Martin K. Breidsprecher, Chief Operating Officer of the L.A. Area Chamber, met with a delegation of elected officials from various states of Mexico this week to discuss nearshoring opportunities between Mexico and Los Angeles. The initiative was launched by Marcelo Ebrard, Mexico's Minister of Interior and Exterior Relations.

Consulate General of Kuwait hosts National Day and Liberation Day

Kenneth Wengrod, Vice President of Global Trade and Foreign Investment for the Chamber, attended the National Day and Liberation Day of the State of Kuwait by the Consulate General of Kuwait in Los Angeles. The event was held at the personal residence of Consul General H.E. Nawaf AlSaied.

U.S. Economic Census and Business Builder

The Census Bureau will join the Chamber for Small Business Strong on March 22 to introduce the 2022 Economic Census and other business surveys conducted by the bureau. Our speakers, Nidaal Jubran, Supervisory Survey Statistician Data User and Trade Outreach Branch, and Kari Klinedinst, Supervisory Survey Statistician Respondent Outreach and Promotion Branch, will highlight census data tools businesses can use to support business growth. Verizon Digital Business Ready Grants - Applications open now!

The next round of $10,000 Verizon Small Business Digital Ready grants are open, apply today! Register here to apply for grant funding and complete any combination of two courses, coaching events, and community events by May 12. Applications close 11:59 p.m. PST on May 12. All applicants will be notified of their grant status by the week of May 18.

Children’s Hospital Los Angeles Launches Annual Make March Matter® Campaign

Make March Matter is an annual fundraising campaign supporting the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to build awareness and funding for children's health in Los Angeles. The campaign offers multiple ways for individuals to participate, including dining or ordering takeout from local food establishments, shopping in person, and joining more than 30 events across the greater Los Angeles area. L.A. Area Chamber Meets with Scottish Business Network

Salinas, Chamber President & CEO, and Kenneth Wengrod, Vice President of Global Trade and Foreign Investment, hosted the Scottish Business Network this week to begin forging a long-term relationship between the Scottish representatives and the Los Angeles business community. We're celebrating Women's History Month to highlight the impactful contributions of women in our communities. We recognize Karen Bass the 43rd Mayor of Los Angeles. Bass, the first woman mayor of Los Angeles, has previously served in Congress and in the California State Legislature as Assembly Speaker. Mayor Bass is a trailblazer and we are excited to celebrate her.
