Chamber Leads Delegation to Washington, D.C. to Advocate for the Region
The Chamber will lead a diverse delegation of just over one hundred business, civic, and community leaders to Washington, D.C., to advocate for key priorities for the greater Los Angeles region. The Chamber will highlight issues like wildfire recovery, support for major global events, and legislation to strengthen the region’s economic competitiveness. The Chamber is expected to meet with Senators Alex Padilla and Adam Schiff, members of the Administration, including U.S. Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy, and Congressional Members. Board Chair Andy Park will join President & CEO Maria S Salinas in leading the delegation.

Public Safety “Zero Tolerance” Initiative Announced
LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell and Mayor Karen Bass announced a “Zero Tolerance” public safety initiative in Downtown L.A. following a mob break-in at high-rise apartments near L.A. Live. The Mayor underscored that street takeovers will not be tolerated. Chief Jim McDonnell emphasized the department’s commitment to maintaining public safety and deterring criminal activity. Local businesses also shared details about the recent break-ins and the impacts they are experiencing. The Chamber welcomes the “Zero Tolerance” public safety initiative, recognizing that businesses and workers too often bear the consequences when criminal activity disrupts our downtown core. Chamber Joins Launch of Kaiser Permanente Sports Medicine Center
Kaiser Permanente welcomed civic leaders, community partners, and local elected officials to introduce the new Kaiser Permanente Sports Medicine Center and launch a multi-year youth initiative, Healthy Minds, Healthy Bodies, Thriving Futures. The event highlighted the organization’s commitment to expanding access to sports medicine, promoting youth wellness, and strengthening community partnerships across Inglewood and South Los Angeles. President & CEO Maria S. Salinas joined stakeholders in recognizing the importance of investing in youth health and well-being while building stronger, healthier communities for future generations.

California Members of Congress Support Federal Funding for Olympics
A group of 36 California Members of Congress, led by Congresswoman Kamlager-Dove, sent a letter to U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy supporting and requesting federal funding for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. The letter requests inclusion of about $2 billion in the President's Fiscal Year 2027 budget request to ensure LA Metro and regional partners can implement a safe, reliable, and accessible mobility plan for the global event. OWS Expansion Proposal Held in Personnel and Hiring Committee
Last Friday, the Chamber provided public comment at the Personnel and Hiring Committee, urging councilmembers to reject the CLA’s proposal to expand enforcement authority for the Office of Wage Standards. The Committee held the item and requested reports from the CAO and City Attorney on staffing needs, SB 261 implementation, and potential subpoena authority changes. The Chamber will continue to monitor.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection Introduces Business-Friendly Tariff Refund Proposal
Last week, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) transmitted a tariff refund proposal to the Court of International Trade, which would establish a system within 45 days to process refunds on the President’s tariffs that were deemed illegal by the Supreme Court. This process would involve returning $166 Billion in tariff payments to over 300,000 businesses by using CBP’s existing internal processes. The Chamber welcomes the new proposal, which it hopes will lead to full reimbursement for impacted businesses.
