Chamber Welcomes New LADWP CEO and Chief Engineer
The L.A. Area Chamber hosted a welcome reception for Janisse Quiñones, CEO and Chief Engineer of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP). Notable attendees included Deputy Mayor of Energy & Sustainability Nancy Sutly, LADWP Commissioners Nurit Katz, Mia Lehrer, Wilma Pinder, and Board Chair Richard Katz. The Chamber is committed to its longstanding collaboration with LADWP, aiming to ensure safe, reliable, and affordable utilities for all Angelenos.

Chamber Launches Get in the Game Initiative
The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with LISC Los Angeles and the Vermont Slauson Economic Development Corporation, launched the Get in the Game Initiative. The new initiative will help local small and diverse businesses take advantage of the more than $150 billion slated to flow throughout L.A.’s regional procurement economy in the coming decade in anticipation of Los Angeles hosting global sporting events, such as the 2026 FIFA World Cup, 2027 Super Bowl, and the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. City Council Budget and Finance Committee Approves Convention Center Expansion
The Chamber applauds the L.A. City Council Budget and Finance Committee for passing the Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion Project P3 Agreement which will fund renovations in time for the 2028 Olympics. The Expansion Project will next be presented to the City Council on July 2. The Chamber continue to advocate for funding and keep membership updated on the status of the Convention Center. LA28 Unveils Updated Venue Plan
The organizing committee for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games unveiled an updated venue plan focused on utilizing existing stadiums and arenas instead of building new ones. LA28 highlighted that the revised plan will generate over $150 million in combined new revenue and cost savings.

L.A. Board of Supervisors Places Half-Cent Sales Tax on November Ballot
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors approved a motion to place the "Homelessness Services and Affordable Housing Transactions and Use Tax Ordinance," known as Measure A, on the November 2024 ballot. If approved, Measure A would increase the expiring quarter-cent sales tax to a half-cent. While the Chamber consistently supports initiatives addressing housing affordability and homelessness, it opposes the current ballot measure due to the absence of a sunset clause, inadequate accountability provisions, and the lack of a fiscal impact study. L.A. County has announced the commencement of the Interruption Fund in the Topanga area. This initiative is designed to support qualified businesses that have experienced a significant impact by the loss of customer support and business revenue due to the Topanga Canyon road closure with grant awards of up to $10,000. City of Riverside Small & Micro Business Resiliency Grant Program- Round Three
The Riverside Small & Micro Business Grant Program aims to bolster local small business resilience through grants of up to $25,000 for eligible businesses. Applicants will also receive a free two-hour, one-on-one Business Resiliency Consultation. This consultation helps identify areas for improvement and develops tailored strategies to enhance financial stability, long-term sustainability, and overall success.
