Kathryn Schloessman, President & CEO of the Los Angeles Sports & Entertainment Commission (LASEC), visited the Chamber to discuss upcoming major events in Los Angeles, including the Super Bowl, World Cup, and Olympics. She stressed the crucial role of private sector participation in supporting these events, emphasizing that their success depends on collective effort. LASEC aims to foster connections between these events and the community, local suppliers, providing opportunities for businesses to engage and participate.

California Lawmakers Approve State Budget
The Assembly and Senate passed the budget bills, AB/SB 107, with votes of 61-14 and 29-8 respectively. Both houses also approved two trailer bills; one on Prop 98 to suspend the education threshold and one on taxation measures, including the suspension of Net Operating Loss (NOL) deductions. The Chamber strongly opposed the inclusion of the suspension in the budget. Once these bills reach the Governor's desk, he has 12 days to sign the budget into law. However, budget negotiations between the legislature and the Governor will continue into next week. The Chamber will continue to advocate.

Chamber Opposes SB 1047 on Artificial Intelligence
The L.A. Area Chamber opposes SB 1047. This issue is best addressed at the federal level. We are concerned that SB 1047 could further complicate the already fragmented AI regulatory framework in the U.S. The Chamber will actively oppose SB 1047 and keep our members informed on developments.

Government & Fiscal Affairs Council Reviews Ballot Measures
On Tuesday, the Government and Fiscal Affairs Council (GFA) heard from speakers on three statewide ballot measures: ACA 1, ACA 13, and the Taxpayer Protection Act. Speakers included Assemblymember Chris Ward from the 78th Assembly District, Jon Coupal from the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, Keely Bosler of Keely MB Strategies, Michael Pimentel from the CA Transit Association, and Aaron Eckhouse from CA YIMBY. This meeting marked the second in a series of GFA Council meetings dedicated to reviewing and discussing statewide ballot measures.
