Los Angeles Convention Center Expansion Project Progresses

This week, the Los Angeles City Council’s Trade, Travel, and Tourism Committee voted to allocate up to $54.4 million for preconstruction work on the city-owned L.A. Convention Center ahead of the 2028 Olympic Games. The proposal now heads to the City Council for a vote. The Chamber testified in support of the expansion project P3 Agreement, highlighting how modernization will enhance the city's ability to attract high-value events. Governor, Legislative, Business and Labor Leaders Announce Agreement on PAGA Reform

Governor Gavin Newsom, Senate President pro Tempore Mike McGuire, Assembly Speaker Robert Rivas, and the Fix PAGA Coalition have announced an agreement to reform the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA). The coalition was led by the CalChamber and included a broad base of supporters. As a member of the coalition, the Chamber has long advocated for PAGA reforms that ensure meaningful protection for workers while reducing frivolous lawsuits for businesses and nonprofits alike. Chamber Hosts Leading Voices in Investing and Wealth Building

The L.A. Area Chamber hosted the speaker series, Women in Leadership, featuring Linnea Roberts, Founder and CEO of GingerBread Capital, followed by an engaging panel discussion on the significance of wealth creation, advocating for women-owned businesses, and breaking down barriers that inhibit women from accessing growth and investment capital. Chamber Supports Planning & Zoning Density Bonuses

AB 2797 aims to modernize broadband regulations while introduce new provisions which simultaneously take care of California’s most vulnerable communities and ensure the state remains a leader in innovation. The Chamber has taken a support position on AB 2797 (McKinnor), and will continue to update our members on its status.

Chamber Urges Governor to Maintain Funding for Critical Workforce Programs

The Chamber sent a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom urging him to maintain state funding for two key programs: the High Roads Training Partnership (HRTP) and the Women in Construction (WIC) Apprenticeship Program. Over recent months, the Chamber has actively engaged with legislators to advocate for continued funding for these initiatives. Governor Newsom's proposed budget includes cuts totaling $50 million for these programs. The Chamber will continue working closely with the Governor's office to advocate for the preservation of funding for these essential programs.

Chamber Participates in Roundtable on Los Angeles-China Relations Organized by Truman Center for National Policy

This week, the Chamber participated in a private roundtable discussion organized by the Truman Center for National Policy on "Los Angeles-China Relations: Recent Challenges and Future Prospects." The meeting brought together stakeholders from the Greater Los Angeles region, including local government officials, diplomats, business leaders, educators, and community organizations. The discussion focused on the evolving nature of the region's relations with China amidst a more challenging US-China relationship.

Restaurants Care: Resilience Care Fund

The Restaurants Care Resilience Fund is accepting applications June 15-30, 2024. Independent restaurants and commercial caterers are invited to apply for a $5,000 grant to build resilience – technology upgrades, equipment upgrades, employee training/retention, and unforeseen hardship. 2024 Elevate Together Grant

The Los Angeles Latino Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, has announced the 2024 Elevate Together Grant. This initiative will offer small business grants and mentorship programs, supporting Black and Hispanic-owned small businesses and local communities with awards up to $5,000. EY Celebrates Entrepreneur of the Year Greater Los Angeles Awards

Congratulations to Chamber Board member Andy Park, EY Office Managing Partner, and EY for a successful Entrepreneur Of The Year Greater Los Angeles Award event. The program honors various business leaders for their ingenuity, courage, and entrepreneurial spirit. An independent panel of judges, which included Chamber President & CEO Maria S. Salinas, met with over 39 entrepreneurs and selected the winners announced at last week’s ceremony.
