L.A. Area Chamber Delegation Visits Washington D.C.
Over 130 business, civic, and community leaders joined the Chamber for ACCESS D.C., the annual federal advocacy trip. The delegation heard from Biden-Harris Administration officials, California Senators Alex Padilla and Laphonza Butler. This year, our advocacy agenda focused on California’s competitiveness and the potential economic opportunities with the major global events Los Angeles will soon host, including the World Cup and Olympic Games. Featured speakers also included Xavier Becerra, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

ACCESS D.C. Delegation Meets With Elected Officials on Capitol Hill
With over 40 meetings with members of Congress, delegation members discussed the pressing issues facing the Los Angeles region. Meetings included: Representative Adam Schiff to discuss regional competitiveness, workforce development, education and national policy in childcare. Representative Ted Lieu to discuss infrastructure investments and regional affordable housing development projects. Representative Maxine Waters to discuss technical assistance and increased access to capital for small businesses. Representative and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar to emphasize the need to support investments to maintain regional competitiveness and economic vitality.

Senator Padilla Announces $150+ Million of Investments Ahead of Olympic Games
On March 11, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla announced over $150 million for various Metro Los Angeles projects to increase mobility across highway and arterial barriers ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic and Paralympic Games. The Port of Los Angeles is also slated to receive $5 million as part of this initiative to support a pedestrian bridge over two mainline freight tracks, which can accommodate emergency vehicles and connects the nearby community with the Wilmington Waterfront. The Chamber applauds the Administration's decision to invest in the state's infrastructure to ensure California communities remain connected and fully mobile. Read the full release here.

Mayor Bass Leads Delegation to Paris for Olympics Preview
Mayor Karen Bass returned to Los Angeles from Paris, France on March 10 after leading a delegation with members of the L.A. City Council and other civic leaders. The trip focused on the preparations taking place in Paris for the Olympics, and was a fact-finding visit as Los Angeles prepares to host the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2028. During the trip, the delegation focused on ensuring small and diverse businesses benefit from the Games while generating innovative housing solutions and green transportation and infrastructure projects. Regional Infrastructure Investments Discussed at ACCESS D.C.
During ACCESS D.C. 2024, the Chamber delegation met with U.S. Senator Alex Padilla. President & CEO Maria S. Salinas shared the federal priorities for the Los Angeles region. Members emphasized the importance of infrastructure investments to prepare the Los Angeles region for major world events which are fast approaching and to support global trade and transit corridors.

L.A. Area Chamber Meets with Senior Advisor to the President
Tom Perez serves as Senior Advisor and Assistant to the President and Director of the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs. President & CEO Maria S. Salinas, Gene Seroka, Port of Los Angeles Executive Director, and Joone Kim-Lopez, Moulton Niguel Water District General Manager discussed the region’s infrastructure and workforce development needs. Senior Advisor Perez commended the work by the Port of Los Angeles for leading in innovation on behalf of the Administration.

During ACCESS D.C., the Chamber met with Representative Salud Carbajal, who represents the 24th Congressional District of California. The delegation stressed the importance of global trade for the region, and public investments in workforce development. The Chamber also shared the importance of global trade facilities which can drive regional competitiveness.
