L.A. City Council approved Chamber-supported housing ordinance
This week, the Los Angeles City Council unanimously approved both the Permanent Supportive Housing Ordinance (PSH) and the Interim Motel Conversion Ordinance, policies the Chamber has spent the last year advocating in support of. Prior to the vote, President & CEO Gary Toebben spoke at a rally with community partners and elected officials on the importance of these tools to address our homelessness crisis. The PSH ordinance creates a streamlined process for approvals of Proposition HHH projects while the Interim Motel Conversion Ordinance is a creative strategy to use existing resources immediately. Both ordinances are expected to be signed by Mayor Garcetti.

MWD supports California WaterFix
In a major victory, the Metropolitan Water District's Board of Directors approved a plan to take on more financial responsibility for funding California WaterFix two tunnel option. The Chamber spoke at Tuesday's Board meeting, emphasizing our long-standing support for the project, the project's urgency and its link to local water projects. The Board of Director's historic decision to support a two tunnel approach, instead of the recently floated one tunnel option, allows the state to move forward with securing a reliable, safe and secure water supply for decades to come.
LAX modernization takes huge step forward
Wednesday, the L.A. City Council unanimously approved a $4.9 million contract for the design, construction, operation and maintenance of an automated people mover at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) that will carry passengers from the central terminal area to a rental car facility, intermodal transportation center and connect to the Metro system. The Chamber has long advocated in favor of this transformative project for the gateway to Los Angeles. Congratulations to LAWA and all the Chamber member companies involved in the LAX Integrated Express Solutions winning proposal.
Democracy at Work campaign launch
On Monday, the Chamber hosted a press conference with Secretary of State Alex Padilla, Frontier Communications and the Los Angeles Rams to announce the launch of Democracy at Work, a non-partisan initiative that encourages businesses to promote voter registration to employees and customers.
