Dr. Barbara Ferrer Addresses COVID-19 Crisis
 
On Thursday, Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health , addressed the L.A. Area Chamber board regarding the current COVID-19 pandemic. She updated the board on the upward trend for COVID-19 in L.A. County, stopping the spread, disparities in our communities and protocols for reopening .
 
Small Business Strong Webinar Series
 
The L.A. Area Chamber is committed to small business success. The Small Business Strong webinar series focuses on building a path forward to economic recovery and resilience. We are also hosting free step-by-step webinars to help businesses apply for the LA Regional COVID-19 Recovery Fund. Webinars are available in English and Spanish .
 
 
Government Fiscal Affairs Summary Report
 
The Government and Fiscal Affairs Council welcomed L.A. City Councilman Bob Blumenfield who discussed the state of the city's budget and the difficult cuts that were being implemented during these unprecedented times. The council also heard arguments about four different ballot measures then following deliberation recommended positions that will be reviewed by the Chamber's executive committee.
 
The Chamber Supports Youth@Work
 
The Chamber staff registered our support for the L.A. County Youth@Work program that provides 25,000 career opportunities to youth and others from underrepresented communities. The county's initiative will match employers with foster youth between the ages of 14 and 21 with six-weeks-paid entry-level positions. I n its most recent meeting, the board approved $20 million to continue funding these essential programs for youth.

Consulate General of Japan Facilitates Gifts for LoVLA for COVID Response
The Consulate General of Japan in Los Angeles has facilitated gifts for the Port of Los Angeles and Logistics Victory Los Angeles (LoVLA): 10,000 bottles of hand sanitizer from YS Media Agency and 1,000 face shields from Toyota Motor North America.   Read the press release.
 
California Companies Partner with Alibaba to Reach China Markets
Alibaba has been supporting California companies to expand their businesses through cross-border e-commerce. Local companies like Beyond Meat, Allbirds, Dr. Bronner’s, E. & J. Gallo Winery and Fenty Beauty have partnered with Alibaba to reach the more than 960 million annual active consumers across China and Southeast Asia shopping on their platforms.  Read more.
 
Border Grill Truck Open in DTLA
The Border Grill truck will be open for lunch tomorrow (Friday, July 10) from 11:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. at Fifth and Figueroa streets. Orders are also available through Uber Eats app to anyone within a five-mile radius. Bring your mask and get your fix!
