LA28 Names Decorated Veteran Reynold Hoover as CEO
The organizing committee for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics has appointed former three-star U.S. Army Lieutenant General Reynold Hoover as its new CEO. With a wealth of experience from senior positions in the U.S. military and civilian roles in the federal government, Hoover brings expertise in planning, operations, and logistics to the organization. Chamber Joins Mobility 21 Annual Delegation Trip to Washington, D.C.
The Chamber joined the Mobility 21 Annual Delegation trip to Washington, D.C. A coalition of Southern California transportation stakeholders met with U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, and Congressmembers including Robert Garcia, Grace Napolitano, and Rick Larsen. Delegation members also met with Samantha Silverberg, Deputy Assistant to the President on Infrastructure, discussing investment needs in transportation and goods movement projects. The delegation included the public transportation agency CEOs and private sector partners.

Chamber Joins 2nd Annual WINS Summit
The Water Infrastructure Networking Summit (WINS) brought together water industry leaders, advocates, business and elected officials from Southern California counties to address water infrastructure challenges. Hosted by Chamber Board member Joone Kim-Lopez, General Manager and CEO of the Moulton Niguel Water District, the event featured a keynote by U.S. Senator Alex Padilla. Chamber President & CEO, Maria S. Salinas, participated in a panel discussing the private sector’s role in water infrastructure support.

CA's Dept. of Insurance Deputy Commissioner Joins Pancakes & Politics
This week, the L.A. Area Chamber’s Pancakes & Politics series featured Michael Martinez, Chief Deputy Commissioner from the California Department of Insurance. Martinez shared insights on the state's efforts to confront the insurance crisis and safeguard the integrity of the market for consumers, homeowners, and businesses. The Chief Deputy Commissioner engaged in discussion with members regarding the state’s Sustainable Insurance Strategy and the goal to finalize regulations by the end of the calendar year.

Chamber Opposes L.A. County RSO Update
On June 4, the Chamber testified in opposition to a motion at the L.A. County Board of Supervisors meeting regarding updating the Rent Stabilization and Tenant Protections Ordinance (RSTPO). The Chamber shared concerns about the lack of economic analysis for each rent control option considered by the Board, and the ability of businesses to balance rising expenses with price regulations that fail to keep pace with inflation. L.A. City Council Approves $12.8B Budget for 2024-25 Fiscal Year
The Los Angeles City Council has passed its $12.8 billion budget for the 2024-25 fiscal year. The Mayor is expected to sign the budget into law shortly. The Chamber will continue to monitor budget developments.

Chamber Congratulates Mexico’s President-elect Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum
The L.A. Area Chamber congratulated President-elect Dr. Claudia Sheinbaum on her historic victory as the first woman President of Mexico. The Chamber hosted a special briefing with President-elect Sheinbaum last October to discuss fostering trade and strengthening Mexico’s relationship with the Los Angeles business community. Compact Mobile Food Operations Subsidy Program
New and existing street vendors can receive assistance from the Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) to secure their Compact Mobile Food Operation (CMFO) permits. The DEO will cover up to 75% of the total CMFO fees, including permit fees, plan checks, site evaluations, and home inspections. These funds are available on a first-come, first-served basis, so don't delay! To participate, you must register and attend at least one workshop session, either in-person or virtually, and complete an application with your information. Topanga Business Interruption Fund
The Topanga Canyon Business Interruption Fund (BIF), supported by L.A. County Supervisor Lindsey P. Horvath and administered by L.A. County’s Department of Economic Opportunity, assists businesses significantly affected by the Topanga Canyon road closure. Qualified businesses can receive grant awards of up to $10,000 to help offset the loss of customer support and business revenue. Learn more about the fund here.
