Chamber Visits with Mexico Delegation
Chamber President & CEO Maria S. Salinas joined the Business Leaders Roundtable in Mexico City, to discuss the economic opportunities for both countries. The briefing was hosted by the U.S. Mexico Foundation and UnidosUS. The U.S. Ambassador to Mexico, Ken Salazar, welcomed the delegation and spoke about the opportunities for both countries to deepen economic ties and collaboration. With Mexico being the biggest trading partner of the United States, with around $475 billion worth of trade, a stronger partnership will provide greater opportunities for regional businesses.

Dominic H. Choi Appointed as Interim Chief of the LAPD
Assistant Chief Dominic H. Choi was unanimously appointed today by the Los Angeles Board of Police Commissioners as the Interim Chief of the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD). Interim Chief Choi will begin his role starting on March 1, 2024, and will be the first Asian-American to lead the department. Interim Chief Choi was raised locally and began his career with the Los Angeles Police Department in 1995. Read the press release here.

Los Angeles Selected As Host of 2026 World Cup Games
Sofi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers has been confirmed as the venue for eight games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The match schedule is the largest in FIFA World Cup history, and the 104-game tournament will feature 48 teams across 16 host cities in three countries – Canada, Mexico and the United States.

Federal Border Protection Bill Briefing Held
On Monday, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce held a virtual briefing on a recently introduced senate bill addressing border security and aid for Ukraine and Israel. The U.S. Senate unveiled a plan to fund $118 billion on border security and aid for Ukraine and Israel and it has already received bipartisan support. The Chamber will continue to monitor the bill and its progress.

L.A. County Fair Chance Ordinance
The Chamber testified in support of the Fair Chance Hiring ordinance at the L.A. County Board of Supervisor's meeting, which will lower barriers that prevent qualified, justice-involved persons from being considered for jobs. This issue has prevented many qualified applicants from participating in the workforce and contribute to the regional economy. The item passed with unanimous support and the Department of Economy Opportunity (DEO) will conduct outreach to small businesses to provide ongoing education on this ordinance.

The L.A. Area Chamber Foundation, in collaboration with the T. Howard Foundation, is thrilled to host Careers in Tech, an event for college students on February 29, 2024. The event will promote diversity in tech careers, and will feature discussions from companies like Apple, Accenture, AT&T, Google, Los Angeles Chargers and Microsoft. The Western Association of Chamber Executives (W.A.C.E.) celebrated its 100th year this week at their annual conference. The association has played a significant role in the growth and development of chamber professionals, including management assistance for new executives and staff. The L.A.
