The Chamber Mourns the Loss of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner
The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce mourns the passing of Rob and Michele Singer Reiner. Rob was a visionary storyteller and entertainment icon whose work shaped generations, and he brought that same passion and dedication to public service. His leadership in championing Proposition 10 helped establish First 5 California, creating a lasting early childhood system that has strengthened health, education, and family support across the state. Rob used his creative platform as a Hollywood director to amplify civic engagement in California. The L.A. Chamber Celebrates Young Business Leaders Selected for Japan Cultural Exchange
The Chamber was pleased to recommend three young business leaders to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan for a cultural exchange program. At a reception, Consul General Kosei Murota welcomed Alejandra Acosta and Matthew Sánchez of UCLA, along with Diego Andrades of USC, who shared highlights from their experience in Japan. President & CEO Maria S. Salinas joined to congratulate the participants. The gathering was hosted by Yuko Kaifu at Japan House LA in Hollywood.

Loyola Marymount University Celebrates Inauguration of President Thomas Poon
Loyola Marymount University (LMU) began a new chapter with the inauguration of its 17th President, Dr. Thomas Poon, unanimously elected by the Board of Trustees in April. The ceremony, held on LMU’s Westchester campus, showcased President Poon’s theme of “Hope, Made Here,” as he shared his vision for the university’s future, guided by purpose and possibility. The Chamber congratulates President Poon on this milestone and commends his inspiring leadership and optimistic vision for LMU.

Governor Newsom Unveils New AI Initiatives to Modernize State Government
This week, Governor Gavin Newsom announced initiatives to expand the use of artificial intelligence (AI) across state government. The efforts include partnerships with tech policy experts and the launch of Poppy, a secure, state-specific AI tool designed to enhance government efficiency for state employees. The Governor also introduced the California Innovation Council, bringing together experts from academia, technology, and nonprofits to tackle issues such as child online protections, tech fraud, workforce development, and the modernization of government services.
