Chamber Urges Action on AB 736 to Curb Rising Transfer Taxes
The L.A. Area Chamber has sent a strong support letter to Assemblymember Mark González for AB 736 (González/Wicks), which would cap combined local transfer taxes at 1.5% statewide. The Chamber cites Measure ULA's chilling effect on Los Angeles real estate as a cautionary example — pointing to declining multifamily production, suppressed transactions, and more than 36,000 stalled affordable units. AB 736's framework preserves local flexibility while establishing market predictability. The Chamber urges the Legislature to pass the bill without delay and calls on the Governor to sign it promptly.
