West Coast Ports Reach Tentative Labor Agreement
The Pacific Maritime Association and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union have reached a tentative agreement on a six-year contract, easing concerns over potential supply chain disruptions. Both the Pacific Maritime Association and the union, which represents 22,000 dockworkers, including those at the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, must approve the labor deal. The agreement was reached with assistance from Acting U.S. Labor Secretary Julie Su. |

Chamber Leads Property Tax Modernization Effort
The Chamber is leading a countywide working group of businesses in identifying modernization opportunities to drive efficiencies in the property tax appeal process. This working group has taken taxpayer data and feedback and presented a series of recommendations to the county. The county has several initiatives of its own to drive efficiencies, and the two groups are collaborating on combined recommendations. Working with the L.A. County Assessor’s Office, Executive Office and the Auditor-Controller’s Office, the working group’s goal is to reduce the backlog of appeals. |

Legislature Approves State Budget
On Thursday, the state legislature finalized the state's budget for the next fiscal year in time for the constitutionally-mandated deadline. The budget will now go to Governor Gavin Newsom for his review. The budget process will continue, as the Governor may request changes before signing the budget bill. In its current state, the $227 billion spending bill does not resolve conflicts with the Governor, notably around infrastructure project reform. |

DCOG Hosts Bioscience Event
The Chamber's Diplomatic & Commercial Officers Group (DCOG) hosted an event at BioscienceLA highlighting important biomedical innovation happening in the region. Los Angeles is home to some of the world's most innovative research institutions and health care centers. Our DCOG heard presentations and engaged in a Q&A session with David J. Whelan, CEO of BioscienceLA, Dr. Jana Lim, Director of Global Strategy & Business Services at UCLA Health, and, Omar Perez, Global Growth & Strategic Alliances for Cedars-Sinai’s Accelerator Program, who discussed how biotech startups are providing cutting-edge innovations to new regions of the world. |

City Council to Review Al Fresco Dining Ordinance
The Al Fresco Dining Ordinance, which will permanently permit outdoor dining areas on restaurants’ private property, was approved by the City Council's Planning and Land Use Management Committee (PLUM). It progresses to the full city council for final approval. The Department of City Planning incorporated community and Chamber feedback to ensure a streamlined, simple, and low-cost transition for the restaurant community. The PLUM Committee unanimously passed the ordinance with amendments, including stipulations that existing ambient noise regulations are followed in areas near residences and that a dedicated hotline for restaurant noise complaints in those areas be created. |

The Chamber met with the African Communities Public Health Coalition in Los Angeles this week. The meeting addressed challenges faced by the African Diaspora in the region and explored ways in which the Chamber can facilitate positive change. |

This week, the Chamber met with Kim Chha Hout, Consul General of Cambodia, and Leticia Arias from the U.S. Department of Commerce. Conversation centered on enhancing cross-border trade between Cambodia and the United States. Norman Arikawa, representing HEI Global, was also in attendance. |

Chamber Launches the Alliance for Economic Fairness
The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce launched the Alliance for Economic Fairness, a multiple-sector coalition, to protect and support hospitality jobs and small businesses. The coalition is opposing the City of Los Angeles' proposal to raise the minimum wage for hospitality workers to an unprecedented $30 per hour.
