Chamber weighs in on City of L.A. banking rules
Chamber President & CEO Gary Toebben testified this week at L.A. City Council's Banking & Finance Committee on the draft Responsible Banking Ordinance (RBO), which is designed to create a set of rules for those financial institutions who wish to do business with the City. The Chamber concurs with the City's commitment to doing business with institutions that strive for financial and social responsibility in the L.A. community, but has some concerns about rules that could unintentionally limit the City's options. Chamber responds to proposed Senate tax reform bill
The Chamber sent a letter this week to Sen. Dianne Feinstein and Sen. Kamala Harris calling for alterations to be made to the Senate's proposed tax reform legislation. While the Chamber supports tax reform to grow businesses, create jobs and stimulate the economy, we have several points of opposition to the bill under consideration. Eliminations in the bill's current form, including the removal of the of the state and local tax deduction (SALT) and the Affordable Care Act coverage mandate, would damage the California economy and our prospects for future growth. Shopping safe this holiday season
The holiday season is the busiest time of year for retailers, in-store and online. During this time, cyber criminals will take advantage of every opportunity to prey on unsuspecting consumers. Below are tips from the Chamber to keep you and your wallet safe over the holidays:
- Do not click on a holiday sales email from an unknown sender.
- Use a credit card for your online purchases versus other payment methods.
- Shop with brands you know and trust, and stay away from deals that seem too-good-to-be-true.
- Look for secure websites and checkouts. A secure website will have https:// in the URL. The "s" in http is what lets you know the site is secure.
- Avoid purchasing counterfeit products by reading the manufacturer information of the product you are interested in buying.
