Lending a Hand During This Time of Need
The earthquake devastation in Haiti continues to horrify and humble all of us. Even as we continue to process the images and stories from the rubble of Port-au-Prince, it's amazing to see the collective outpouring of support for international relief efforts.
This blog usually focuses on political or public policy matters that impact our community. And while there are many important matters to discuss, they all pale in comparison to the sheer magnitude of human tragedy in Haiti. Southern Californians know just how dangerous and frightening earthquakes can be. Perhaps that's why our community, especially, has demonstrated such an outpouring of support for the victims.
I hope that you have taken a moment to contribute what you can to the relief efforts. Listed below are three organizations on the ground in Haiti, working to assist victims:
Let us also remember to review our own preparedness for a major earthquake — which is a question of when, not if. In the meantime, I join all of you in sending support and prayers to the people of Haiti.
