Congratulations to the Los Angeles Kings and Anschutz Entertainment Group

The Los Angeles Kings made our city and county of Los Angeles happy and proud last night with their 6-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils and the first ever Stanley Cup for a Los Angeles team. Athletes whose names were unknown to many residents before the playoffs began have now become heroes in our community and appropriately so. Heroes not just because they won the prize, but because they were the underdogs that skated, finessed and fought their way to the top with teamwork, grit and determination. The No. 8 seeded team when the playoffs began, the Kings are now the Stanley Cup Champion with 26 individual heroes and the owners of a title that fans have been waiting 45 years to celebrate. It was exhilarating watching each member of the team take his turn skating with the Stanley Cup raised overhead during the celebration of last night’s win.
A special thanks to the Kings' fans who filled Staples Center with energy, emotion and lots of noise. The crowd that attended game four in Staples Center last week came to view a coronation. The fans at last night's game knew they had an essential role to play in winning the Stanley Cup.
Congratulations to each member of the team with special recognition to goalie Jonathan Quick who received the Conn Smythe Trophy for most valuable player in the playoffs. "Quickie" played every minute of every game and gave his teammates the confidence to be aggressive on each and every play because he had their back covered. Congratulations to Coach Darryl Sutter who clearly is a master of motivation and strategy. And to President/General Manager Dean Lombardi and President, Business Operations Luc Robitaille, who has been the heart and soul of the Kings since he was selected by the team as draft choice No. 171 in 1984.
And finally, congratulations and thank you to Anschutz Entertainment Group and Kings owners Phil Anschutz and Edward Roski, Jr., and Governor Tim Leiweke for their commitment to creating a winning combination of players and coaches for us to cheer, love and celebrate. AEG has not just been good for sports and entertainment in Los Angeles, it has been good for business in general and for everyone who calls Los Angeles home.
