Kings Make Our City Proud and Set an Example

The teamwork, hard work and humility of the players, coaches, management and ownership of the Los Angeles Kings makes me extraordinarily proud of our 2014 Stanley Cup Champions. I've watched sporting events all my life, but I can't remember a championship team at the professional level that so completely embodies the values that I grew up with as a farm kid in Nebraska. 

Every action and decision by the members of the Kings organization exemplifies the famous quote by another Midwesterner, President Harry S. Truman who said, “It is amazing how much you can accomplish when it doesn’t matter who gets the credit.” That collective attitude was the hallmark of this team and why they brought the Stanley Cup back to Los Angeles.

Los Angeles, as a city, can learn a lot from the Kings. This is a team whose motto is to never be outworked by a competitor on the ice. Even in the playoff games they lost, when the puck didn’t fly their way, they always worked harder than the other team. Add skill and trust and you have a winning combination. The Kings displayed 100 percent trust in their teammates and each player gave 100 percent effort in earning and maintaining that trust. 

The Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce is proud that one of our members earned the Stanley Cup for their fans and our community. The 2013-14 Kings brought us hundreds of hours of exciting family entertainment. They also provided a role model for every other enterprise in Southern California, business, government or nonprofit. Thank you Kings and congratulations from all of us.
