LAWA Gives Region A Christmas Present For The Decades

Last week the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners approved a $4 billion plan to dramatically transform LAX's ground transportation, and arrival and departure experience. The commissioners approved plans for a Landside Access Modernization Program that will include an automated LAX Train to connect passengers to the airline terminals from off site locations. Planned stops include a Rental Car Center and multiple facilities for passenger pick-up and drop-off between the Central Terminal Area and Metro's planned Crenshaw Line Station at 96th Street/Aviation Boulevard.
The new plan is designed to relieve congestion in the Central Terminal Area, as well as on local streets surrounding the airport. The environmental review process should begin in January and construction on parts of the plan is expected to begin in 2017.
The plan for the automated LAX Train includes three stations in the Central Terminal Area with a pedestrian walkway system connecting to airline terminals. It will be a convenient option for both passengers and thousands of LAX employees who commute to work every day. When combined with the new Rental Car Center at the end of the line, the LAX Train should eliminate thousands of car and shuttle bus vehicles trips per day into the Central Terminal Area.
During this year's Holiday Season, three million passengers will use LAX to connect with family and friends around the world. Congestion was at its peak in the Central Terminal Area on Saturday morning when I flew out of LAX. All of us look forward to a time when the new facilities called for in the LAX Landside Transportation Plan are in place. We applaud the Board of Airport Commissioners for putting the wheels in motion on this long-awaited development. I can't wait till it is time to finally open this present!
And that's The Business Perspective.
