Apple. Mattel. The Walt Disney Company. Huge, successful companies that have something in common -- they all started as small businesses. Like these companies, today's small businesses have the power to transform industries, communities and the world as we know it. Small businesses drive innovations and power our economy. They are responsible for the majority of our job growth.
In Los Angeles, the entrepreneurial spirit of small businesses shines bright. As our nation celebrates Small Business Month, we invite you to join the Chamber's Center for Small Business Success as we shine a spotlight on the region's small businesses at the 2017 Small Business Awards. This partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration will take place on Wednesday, May 17 at the Hilton Los Angeles/Universal City.
The morning will begin with a small business workshop focused on helping small business owners overcome risks and grow their business. The workshop will feature Steve Lehman, founder and chairman of Business Rockstars. Lehman will moderate a panel of successful small business owners, including Coolhaus Co-Founder Freya Estreller, Susie Cakes Founder Susan Sarich, Jeff Ghitman of Local Roots and Corrine Crockett of Vow to be Chic.
Following the workshop, Muse Recordings Co-Founder and CEO Mike Muse will kick off the awards luncheon with keynote remarks on entrepreneurship, small business and innovation. Then the Chamber and the U.S. Small Business Administration will recognize the Small Business Person of the Year, Richard Klein of Advanced Battery Systems Inc., as well as entrepreneurs in the categories of Veteran-Owned Business, Small Business Exporter of the Year, Family-Owned Business, Women in Business Champion, Minority Small Business Champion, Innovation through Technology and Young Entrepreneur of the Year.
