Advocate With Us In Sacramento Next Week

Next week, 80 business and civic leaders will head to the state capital for our annual ACCESS Sacramento advocacy trip. With Gov. Brown’s May revise last week sending the budget process into high gear, and the deadline to get bills out of their house of origin looming, it will be an impactful time to visit with our state representatives.

The trip will kick off with a reception Tuesday, May 22 with welcoming remarks from Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon and a dinner featuring members of our L.A. delegation. With the budget discussion top of mind, breakfast on May 23 will feature a keynote from Department of Finance Director Michael Cohen and an insightful commentary from Dan Walters, former Sacramento Bee and current CalMatters opinion columnist. At our annual Sutter Club luncheon, we will hear from State Controller Betty Yee and CalMatters Senior Editor Dan Morain on the 2018 election season and the effects that political campaigns are having on policy.

Throughout Wednesday, 11 different issue teams will meet with state legislators, departments and administration officials on policies that affect the business community and residents of Los Angeles County. We'll be supporting our local economic drivers -- film, aerospace, tourism and logistics -- while opposing costly new mandates and regulations. We'll be advocating for tools to fund affordable housing and for making it easier to build housing for everyone.

The transportation team will be connecting with the administration on the best ways to continue the progress we are making under SB 1, while the health care team will be seeking tools to maintain and increase access to care. The energy team will be participating on a natural disaster preparedness panel, while our technology and innovation group will build on the great work of our Bixel Exchange and advocate for more GO-Biz resources to help achieve that mission. Our education teams will advocate for policies that strengthen public education from early learning to higher education. And a smart justice team will be working to break down barriers to education and employment faced by individuals with criminal records.

REGISTER TODAY if you would like to join us for this last trip to Sacramento during Gov. Brown's leadership. You will be a part of history as the Governor wraps up his last budget and the Legislature debates the future of many important bills.

And that's The Business Perspective.
