Chamber co-hosts summit for transition-age foster youth

Three hundred practitioners from child welfare, higher education and workforce development agencies attended a summit organized by the L.A. Opportunity Youth Collaborative focused on supporting transition-age foster youth in achieving college and career success. The L.A. Area Chamber served on the planning committee for the Fostering Connections to TAY Self-Sufficiency Summit and presented two workshops on career exploration resources for foster youth. The keynote speaker, Dr. Shawn Ginwright, inspired the group with ideas on how to move from “trauma-informed practice” to “healing-centered engagement,” an assets-based approach that seeks to move beyond merely treating the emotional and behavioral symptoms of trauma and focuses instead on the dreams youth want to achieve and fostering holistic well-being.
