Serving thousands of students and families

L.A. Cash for College, in partnership with the L.A. Area Chamber, UNITE-LA and Univision, Inc., partnered to provide college preparation, financial aid assistance, career exploration and scholarship opportunities to approximately 8,000 students during Tu Futuro LA: Beyond the Diploma. The two-day event, held at East Los Angeles College, was a one-stop opportunity for youth and their families to prepare for their future. More than 200 volunteers helped make this event possible. Eighty-three presenters and panelists spoke to students about how to prepare for college and how to apply for financial aid resources and emerging careers in industries like health care and technology. Approximately 60 college admissions representatives, scholarship providers and nonprofit exhibitors met with students and their families. Students in attendance were awarded $30,000 in scholarships, thanks to the L.A. Cash for College Program and Wells Fargo. For 18 years, the Chamber has been providing students with these resources during its Cash for College program. Tu Futuro LA: Beyond the Diploma is part of the Chamber’s and its affiliate, UNITE-LA’s, body of work, College Ready L.A., which ensures collaboration in assisting all L.A. area students in preparing for, accessing and completing college.

In partnership with California Community Colleges' Health Workforce Initiative, Tu Futuro LA: Beyond the Diploma also hosted the Health Care Career Exploration Track with more than 350 high school students from South and Southeast Los Angeles. Students had an opportunity to learn about high demand health care careers and post-secondary training through four panel discussions and a health care pavilion that included the participation of local colleges and employers. The program track was designed to enhance current regional efforts focused on increasing awareness of health care pathways in diverse, underrepresented communities. SEE THE PHOTOS.
