Safely Returning to Schools

In April, it officially became safe for Los Angeles Unified School District to reopen its schools. The Chamber is working to ensure that every organization, business, and community opens as safely as possible, with special emphasis on ensuring the health and safety for children, staff, and faculty within our schools.

LAUSD is beginning an effort to vaccinate students during this school year. Their plan is to visit each of their secondary school campuses to offer vaccinations to students at least once before school ends on June 11th, and again during the summer.

You and your eligible family members should do everything you can to get vaccinated, and should support your colleagues in doing the same. Health authorities require a family member to accompany children for their vaccinations, and LAUSD is providing paid time off to District staff who take time off to take their children to be vaccinated. We applaud this kind of leadership and hope to see other employers follow suit.

If we aim to reach the full potential of our region’s economic recovery, we must ensure that our children are receiving the education and care they need from their academic institutions. Our businesses, livelihoods, and communities depend on it.
